Bamberg is wonderful all year round

Dream city of the Germans and Unesco World Heritage Site

Bamberg is nestled in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Franconia. Forests, meadows, gentle hills, lakes and rivers characterise the Bamberg region. The historic city centre has even been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the impressive Gardeners’ Town.

The Franconian Rome

So much of Italy north of the Alps: because of its location on seven hills, Bamberg is also known as the Franconian Rome. It is furthermore a reminder of the seat of Emperor Henry and his wife Kunigunde, with its ecclesiastical and political significance far beyond the city limits. Little Venice enchants with its quaint houses and its location right on the river, where you can even take an original Venetian gondola to the hotel’s own jetty.

Island city & lively centre

Built on an island in the Regnitz, the Old Town Hall marks the old boundary between the episcopal hill town and the bourgeois island town. From here you have a wonderful view of the former fishing settlement of Little Venice, with its medieval half-timbered houses lined up along the Regnitz. With numerous charming little shops and exclusive offers, the island town invites you to go shopping in Bamberg’s old town centre. From the Hotel Villa Geyerswörth, just follow the picturesque footpath along the old towpath directly towards the historic Brückenrathaus.

Domberg with New Residence

The 1,000-year history of the Archbishopric of Bamberg is expressed most impressively by the mighty Imperial Cathedral and the large square with the Old Court and the New Residence. From our hotel, it’s just a short walk through the picturesque alleyways up to this magical place, which has also served as the backdrop for many great feature films.

Gardeners' Town - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Directly adjacent to the city centre, the Gardeners’ Town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can still see the typical gardener’s houses with the large gateways behind which the long fields stretch out. You can still buy fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs directly from the farm shop. Explore the gardening and horticulture museum there and look out over this very special area from the viewing platform.

Cultural offer

Bamberg has a rich cultural and events programme that attracts many visitors from near and far. There is something special on offer almost every day of the year, just waiting to be discovered.

Even in the evening hours, it is worth taking a special look at the beauty of the city and its hidden stories. The Bamberg Night Watchman’s tours are entertaining and highly informative. The tour starts right next door, and larger groups can even be picked up directly from our hotel.
